Community dialogue on child Neglect

Child neglect is one of the common forms of child maltreatment in Uganda, it can affect a child’s physical and mental wellbeing and can lead to long term adverse consequences. Child neglect springs from many complex issues including parental mental wellbeing, poverty in families and drug and alcohol use. As a central objective of ACR to protect the rights of children, we conducted a community dialogue on child neglect in Nyamutende village, Kibeka parish in Kiryandongo district where we engaged caregivers on different issues pertaining child neglect. Caregivers came up with different solutions to the problem. This included transferable protection skills to parents to enhance their ability of engagement in sustainable children’s rights as a call for action. For we believe that children have to be protected so that they can survive, learn, and develop to their full potential.
