ACR held a community dialogue on child abuse and neglect in Kimogora village. The dialogue focused more on child neglect and sexual abuse which was on the rise in the area. The dialogue included 3 representatives from the district including the probation officer and  3 representatives from the sub-county. The dialogue included 230 participants from the area. This included 120 women, 100 men, and 10 children.  The training came because of the increasing number of street children in the town of Bweyale because of child abuse and neglect. The dialogue was aimed at increasing the knowledge of caregivers on children’s rights and their role as first duty bearers in the protection of children’s rights. The objective of the dialogue was to equip the participants with the necessary information needed to protect children.  Child abuse is a serious and unfortunately prevalent issue that can take various forms. It involves any action or inaction by a parent or caregiver that results in harm, potential for harm, or threat of harm to a child. The main types of child abuse discussed included Physical Abuse, Emotional or Psychological Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Child Exploitation, and neglect.

Child abuse can have severe and lasting effects on a child’s physical and mental well-being. It is a global issue that requires attention and intervention from various sectors, including government agencies, law enforcement, social services, healthcare, and educational institutions.
